This Blog has Moved

After five years of blogging, I am announcing that my prose has dried up. It didn't happen suddenly. I was neglecting it and constantly felt I was behind and should do something about it. I made promises to refreshen it, to start it over, to get it done... But, didn't. So, I stopped doing it altogether. Bye bye, blog.

The good news is: You can continue to follow my posts on Instagram. See you there!

Isn't it funny when you check the photos of your phone and you get this impression of what you've been up to lately. Well, this is how life looks from my perspective.

Kids, dogs, home, sauna, work lunches, walks by the sea. Love, life, happiness.

Easter Holiday

It is Thursday evening and I feel just wonderful. Our Easter holiday has just started. I am home waiting for Maia to come home from a friend's house and Luis from soccer practice. And I have a surprise for them in the kitchen...

Four days just vegging around, just wonderful! Maia will go to my mom's house but Luis and I plan to stay in Helsinki. I have yoga classes and Luis has... a social life, I guess. He begged to stay home to hang out with his friends over the few free days from school. And I said okay.

Happy Easter everyone!

Bruxelles, je t'aime!

Horrified, I've read and watched the news today!
Here's to my lovely former home city Brussels and all it means to me.
It seems the world has changed into a horrible place!
So many dead and injured for disgusting hatred!

Brussels, I will always love you!

Life Hack #5 - Save Money

How about SAVING SOME MONEY this year? Here's something I found on Pinterest: a money saving challenge that seems like relatively easy-piecey to do. At least in the beginning... Maia and I are so doing this! We've actually already SPENT the money: a new MacBook Air for me and and iPad Mini for her in December. CAN'T WAIT!!!!!

The instructions from this BLOG are extremely simple:

Here's the name of the game!
Each week of the year, you save that much in dollars!
Week ONE: You save $1
Week TWO: You save $2
Week THREE: You save $3

I Am Wearing - Hospital Outfit

I went to the hospital for eye surgery and was back really quick. I was not even supposed to stay overnight but did cause things got delayed and by the evening I was still pretty out of it with all the painkillers I'd been given. So far so good. I am now resting home and getting ready for my first real check-up on Friday. Let's see what my wonderful doctor says - did the surgery work out or not. And let's hope it did.

I was told to dress comfy for that day, so I opted for jeans, a sweater, Uggs and a little Longschamps clutch with some cash, cards, phone and lipbalm inside - I NEVER go anywhere without a lipbalm.

What's funny in these pics, is that you can sort of see that I am a bit scared, don't you think?

Sunday Bread

One of the many many things I wanted to improve this year was my family's diet. Healthier, cleaner, lighter. And as part of that, for more than a month now, I have planned to start baking our own bread on weekends. Bread from the store, you see, contains many ingredients I don't like: sugar for instance.

So, on Sunday I finally got my act together and baked. White flour, milk, yeast, just a little sugar and salt and voilá, a fine bread it became. There aren't many things that smell better than fresh bread just out of the oven. The kids love it and so do I.

You'll find the recipe HERE (in Finnish).

Maia's Birthday!

Last weekend, Maia turned 11, woohoo! And we had a party. Not just any party but a DISCO party at our home (sorry neighbors!). Well, this disco party also had cocktails, snacks, games and a piñata...

This basically, to a 11-year-old, is how life should be (or perhaps it is for all of us..) And the only boy: the reluctant older brother who had to be paid to work as dj for two hours :))

Please God, can you let this be the state of affairs for some more time. Please?

REMEMBER? When Luis turned 11, we still lived in the U.S. Now he's 13.
I wish, we'll live in the U.S. when Maia turns 13!

As I was scrolling down one of my Pinterest boards, namely the one labeled "moods", I came across so many nice things I had quite forgotten. I know studies say that people who share these are simple-minded, but guess if I care. It is a NEW YEAR...

Minus 26 Celcius...

Yes, it is very very cold. We got some freezing air from Siberia over the whole of Finland this week and the minus temperatures have been quite scary... The last winters in Helsinki have been so mild, it is hard to adjust. Although, I do remember this from my childhood. A bit too well, even.

(When I lived in D.C. people often said. "Oh, but you must be suffering for the heat wave!" As often I responded: "Oh, no! I am enjoying it." HA HA!)

I have taken summery pics of the Southern parts of Helsinki, near my work before (here and here) . So, here's two pics from today. I think i just missed the best light and it was too cold to take them, but still it's something to remember in July, I guess.
