Don't you just fear that moment at the doctor's when they sit down, look you in the eye and go: "Well, I'm afraid I have some bad news for you." I had that moment last Friday.

I have had bad eyes forever, been very very myopic since I was about 12 years old. I went through some surgery four years ago and all's been more or less fine. Two weeks ago, I had a mild flu and during that, I felt my right eye was "hurting" a bit. For some time, it has also hurt in bright light. "Iritis", the doctor said and sent me home with cortisone drops.

I went back for check-up on Friday. Turns out I will be needing surgery asap. Long story short: I am pretty down. It could be worse of course and there are bigger issues in the Universe but still, it's my right eye we're talking about...

Ville de lumière et moi

I made a trip to Paris cuz it was my birthday and all. Needless to say, the city was as beautiful as ever. La rentrée really for me is and always was the best time of the year, even if it rains a bit.

I was trying to figure out HOW LONG it had been since I last visited Paris but I couldn't. It must have been in the late 1990's as I more or less moved from Brussels to Helsinki in 2000 and have been mostly having kids after that... And in the 2010s my travels have been to the States and not in Europe.

Yep, for me going back to France or Belgium is like going back to the person I was in my 20s. It is therefore also a little sad. Sweet and sad at the same time. God, I NEVER had any money (not that much has changed in that sense) and I loved people watching, photography, window shopping and movies!

I must say, I believe that deep down a person doesn't really change that much... over the years.

Imagine Helsinki

Okay, so here's something I have been working on lately with my cousin slash friend Ossi. We just started the project - have some 500 likes - and are very much feeling this. We feel we are doing the right thing in portraying refugees who have made it to Finland. Ossi is in charge of the photography and I interview and edit.

As much as for the refugees, we have dedicated our project to the people who have chosen to act to HELP the refugees instead of resorting to "anger talk" and racism or being afraid. Those are the proud and brave we also want to be.

WELCOME REFUGEES - bring along your personal stories - WE LOVE YOU!
Please LIKE and SHARE!

- How old are you?
- I’m 8.
- What position do you play?
- Midfielder.
- How good are you?
- I’m very good.
- What are you going to be at age 18?
- A lawyer.

My children’s names, Egli and Rajan, do not really mean anything. They are just names. Actually, they are combinations of the letters of my wife’s and my first names.

I can sew anything. Give me a sewing machine and I’ll do anything, really. I have hand-made things out of fabric since I was 15 years old. No one taught me, I am self-taught. The first thing I made as a teen, was an elaborate bed cover.

My Favourite MONTH

Yes, September, indeed. It is and has always been my favourite month. I was born in September and I always felt that it is a "beginning" for everything: hobbies, school, new inspiration and aspirations, everything new.

I feel the most energetic around this time of the year, usually. Which, for those who know me, means VERY energetic. This year, I have new plans to give back. Maybe I'll share some of my voluntary work efforts with you guys later.

Right now, what I have, is lots of ideas, big and small, new ideas and lots of good energy. I feel something new might be coming out of this all. I've been in a dormant state for a long long time now. Maybe that period in time is ending. We'll see.
