Maia turned TEN

Maia's birthday falls on January, every year. For some reason she had come to think I NEVER EVER bought her a REAL birthday gift - as the past 4-5 years our family has been on the move and often big changes have happened in January and her birthday has kinda been - if not forgotten - celebrated in odd circumstances like us knowing no one or having no furniture,,,

Therefore, this year, I decided to do something about this childhood-ruining memory lane of hers and get her something really special. And I did.

You should have seen her face! When she realized Luis and I had not gone to the supermarket but had sneaked out to get her present, which Luis carried in his arms. (You should have also seen my mother's face, who was around that day, but that's a whole another story...)

Nasu (Piglet) is now a full member of this family. And especially attached to my mother... :D

Oh, and how's Bambi dealing with the newcomer? Wanna see her face? Yeah, well....

"I thought we already had A DOG..."

January 2015

On January 4th in 2015, we had survived exactly one year back home. Time for some reflection, sure. This is mine: both kids have their private, own versions along my experience.

It has been a year of transition, not easy but not altogether horrid either. We have come together, and have enjoyed especially being so close to our family. Helsinki is both a rough and a forgiving place to live in. The weather (OMG), the early mornings, the passive-aggressive attitude of strangers... But then the clean air, pure water, blue blue skies and calm and safety we can trust on almost 100%.

The kids can take the public transport alone to their hobbies, hang out in malls with their friends and meet me up downtown after I finish work. Everything is just a few kilometres away anyway. The joy of a small town - and yet, it is the capital of our nation.

We have started to feel less like outsiders, more home in our own circles. We love our home and the times we are gathered together (not least cause we bought a movie projector at the airport in Baltimore last summer...), to watch movies and eat "lose candy".

This was pretty much how I felt all January...

That dude could have been me out with the dog.

This is closer to actual human habitat, thus the lighting.

It Has Been Awile

...since I last wrote anything on my dear blog. I think it is a series of reasons come together and maybe for no reason at all, that I so neglected "Piece": new job, tiredness, 3-month-flu, followed by ear infection one month after (damn public transport, I guess...)

A lot has happened at home, we got a new DOG, I have a few new projects, including one charity thingy and tons of new 70's stuff from flea markets. I also became a SPOTTER again. And, and, and...

The kids are growing, spring is advancing, soon it's summer.. I need to rewind a little it seems. But not sure how coherent it will all be - see, I have a little fever and am off work for the 4th day. Today was my first day up from bed really. I went out with the dogs and saw that a lot of the snow had melted. Maybe that's what made me better. Or will make me better, together with these....
