Life Hacks #2

This may sound simple, even too simple. But it ain't. In a household wih four iPhones, one iPad and several other devices that need to be charged plus each individual's earphones, nothing is simple. This hack reduces a lot of stress&screaming: "that's mine no it's newer so it's mine who has mine then!!??"

From now on, Maia is yellow, Luis is red and I am blue. *ppssst, don't mess up like we did, get it right the first time...

Mad Men Chairs

I was lucky to stumble on an auction of some old office in Helsinki. It was closing up its operations for good. The owner sold the furniture - lounge chairs, tables, bins, lamps and desks... - everything straight from Mad Men.

I got these beauties - 2 chairs and the table - for 80 euros! Hideous or hilarious? What do you think?

Bits & Pieces

I love my home. I love being at home and I love that my home is an on-going project. I love so many things, there's not enough room for all. And the hardest is to make selections. From various flea markets... Hehe!

Here's some old, some really old, hardly any new and some red stuff, for you. From my home.

My DIY #1

It might come to you as a surpirse but I like to DO stuff. It comes as a surprise to myself, actually.
But, I do love all kinds or DIY projects. Here's my latest "flea hack". I got this perfectly functioning scales from a flea market for 4 euros. Of course it was hideous! I had an idea though, and here's the result of some 15 minutes of DIY. :D

I cut a picture I liked from a hard paper magazine and glued it on the scales. Tsadaa!

Will Make Pie

Most probably, I will make some blueberry pie this weekend. Just so that you know.

I have some blueberries stacked in the freezer from this summer - not unlike ALL Finns. The ones from forest are totally different from the "garden" berries you see everywhere. The forest ones are the best ones for pies, really.

Class for Coins

I found these super-über classy coppery things for my apartment almost for nothing. The candle holders with a coppery ring are from H&M Home (3,99/piece) and the *drum roll* coppery wall clock is from Tiger (5 euros). Wow, I feel like such a master of cheap stuff!

You have a great weekend, now! I hope mine will be less hectic than the last. I could almost promise to post some photos of my decoration projects at home. My key principle has been (surprisingly) the 1970s - have simply not been able to contain myself with the offers on Finnish second-hand sites...

High Five!

OMG! This LINK made my day today - yet another busy day.

The story goes: "When Brazilian illustrator Rafael Mantesso divorced with his ex-wife, she took all of the furniture with her, leaving behind an empty house with white walls. All he had was Jimmy Choo, his bull terrier. Mantesso started painting and drawing again, which is when his buddy Jimmy lent him a paw..."

One of My Mottos

Last week AND weekend were incredibly busy. I had a lot of work and also participated in some fundraising activities for Luis's Camp School next spring. And my old friend Anne was visiting during the weekend, too. It's a relief to have some training today - half day at work.

This, however, is one of my mottos... and I am a lover of the fall season. For its busyness, mainly.

From here
You have a great week, too! Pssst. I have some news in about two weeks. Work related...

Weekend Feelings

We took a mini-trip to our famous archipelago this Sunday. The weather was fabulous, and we had a great time. I can truly recommend the Söderkär Lighthouse Island to everyone, especially with kids. A relaxing vibe throughout all of this experience. We'll be back next summer, so that we can swim!

PS. I took one billion photos...

Have a great week, everyone!

15 Minutes of Fame

We made it to the Mtv3 7 PM and 10 PM News not long ago.
Helena, our temporary student resident, Bambi, Bart, the kids and me :)

The story goes: students moving to study in Helsinki have it extremely hard to find affordable housing. The Lutheran Church therefore organized a campaign this year, where just anyone could offer a "couch in the capital" temporarily for a student. We were lucky to get Helena, she stayed with us for almost two weeks before she found a tiny student appartment to share with another girl.

Porky Chops

It's been rather hectic lately... After a sleepy summer at the office, it took me by surprise to actually have to WORK and work hard and fast. Well, that just makes weekends feel like weekends again. And weekends are for FOOD!

The kids and I actually get to enjoy some harvest (not lemons...) from this summer as we cook this fall: The rosemary I grew myself, the gooseberry I stole from our neighbor's garden myself and made into a jam myself... With Jamie's advice you can't fail.

 Jamie's pork chops
Marinate the boneless pork chops in lemon juice,
olive oil, fresh/dryed rosemary, salt and black pepper.

Fry on a pan. Eat with French fries and
homemade gooseberry jam,
rustic bread and manchego cheese.
