End of a War

My dear neighbor Barack Obama declared on December 15th the end of the war in Irak or more accurately, the withdrawal of all U.S. forces from the country by the end of the year 2011. There have been more than 4,400 American deaths and at least 100,000 civilian deaths in this unjustifyed, unpopular and unsuccessful war started in 2003 by George W. Bush. It has cost this country approximately (this is insane!) 3 trillion dollars.

Somebody told me, we're going to be seeing a lot more of veterans everywhere come January. To me, it is really weird to see a 21-year-old war veteran, as in Finland veterans were in their twenties some 70 years ago. Equally weird it is to witness this omnipresent "support our troops" rhetoric... Absolutely EVERYBODY (pacifist or militant, liberal or conservative) here thinks the U.S. military people are superheroes of some kind. The respect for them is just amazing.
